A City Built in Two Eras — and We Work Both

O’Fallon was founded in 1854 and named for Colonel John O’Fallon, a St. Louis businessman who backed the Ohio & Mississippi Railroad line through the area. German farming families settled around the new depot, and the city incorporated as a village in 1874 and adopted full city government in 1905. Coal mining sustained the local economy for more than a century alongside the railroad. That history matters for plumbing because O’Fallon’s older core — the streets built up around the original depot and downtown — still has the galvanized supply lines and clay sewer laterals typical of a pre-1960s Illinois railroad town.

The second era started when Interstate 64 improvements opened O’Fallon to serious suburban growth in the 1980s and ’90s. Subdivisions like Thornbury Hill, Nolin Creek Estates, Fairwood Hills, Deer Creek, Forest Hills, and Fairwood East built out fast, and O’Fallon has grown in population every census since 1854 except one — it’s now home to over 32,000 residents, the largest of the communities we serve outside Belleville. Homes in these subdivisions are newer, but “newer” in O’Fallon often still means 30-plus years old, which is exactly the age PEX and PVC-era plumbing starts showing its first real wear: water heater end-of-life, disposal motor burnout, and the first generation of builder-grade fixtures failing.
